Filipinas are known for their grace, beauty and elegance. Thus, it comes as no surprise that in the 62nd Miss Universe beauty pageant, there are Filipinas who are vying for the elusive crown. Forty more days and the much-awaited beauty pageant of the universe will be held in Moscow, Russia, where 84 contestants from all over the world will be competing for the crown, and three of which have Filipino descent.

Miss Philippines Ariella Arida

The Philippines official delegate for Miss Universe 2013, Ariella won her title as Miss Universe-Philippines during the coronation night held on Sunday, April 14, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and bested 49 other contestants. Born and raised in the Philippines, the 24-year-old chemistry graduate from Alaminos, Laguna is feeling the pressure of representing the country after two winning streaks of the Philippines. Weeks after winning the 2013 Miss Supranational thanks to Philippines bet Mutya Johanna Datul, Megan Young is the new and the first Filipina to win the Miss World crown. So the question now is, can she continue the winning streak of the Philippines now that she is competing with two other Filipinas?

Miss Canada Riza Santos

For a while the name Riza Santos was a household name in the Philippines thanks to TV reality show "Pinoy Big Brother" where she joined as a housemate. Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, both of Riza's parents are Filipinos. She was influenced by her grandparents to pursue a career in the military. She completed her basic military training with the Canadian Armed Forces and worked with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) when she graduated high school. She was hailed as the 1st runner up to Denise Garrido who was supposed to represent Canada for Miss Universe, but 24 hours later, the 27-year-old Filipina beauty emerged to be the rightful owner of the crown. She was officially crowned a week later in her hometown, Calgary, Alberta.

Miss Gabon Ruth Jennifer Ondo Mouchita

Representing the African country of Gabon, Ruth Jennifer Ondo Mouchita is the second candidate from Gabon to join Miss Universe since the country's debut in 2012. The 21-year-old Gabonese beauty is reportedly half-Filipina and can speak fluent Tagalog. She was crowned as Miss Gabon at the "City of Democracy," in Librebille on Friday night, Dec 22, 2013.
