Microsoft has not released a Windows Phone flagship device for a long-time now. The tech giant seems to be happy and satisfied with releasing entry-level and budget-friendly devices thus far. But then, the 2014 IFA was a surprise event, where the company introduced mid-range Lumia 730, Lumia 735 and Lumia 830. In addition, the Microsoft Lumia 535 has recently been released. Not to forget, the Lumia 535 is the first handset from Microsoft to use "Microsoft" moniker, instead of the usual "Nokia." In case, readers were expecting this long-run of not releasing flagship devices, would end in the beginning of 2015, it is reportedly not going to happen.

According to a recent report, Microsoft is not planning to release its upcoming flagship smartphone until September 2015. The report also states that the tech giant will attend the MWC event scheduled for March 2015. However, the devices lined-up for introduction are brand new entry-level smartphones and not the flagship handset, reports GSM Arena.

Apparently, a new Lumia handset under the 6-series will replace the Lumia 625. The same site opines that, the aforesaid device could be the 5-inch display-clad Lumia RM-1090. Furthermore, other devices waiting for release could reportedly be RM-1069 and RM-1110.

For a long time now, the successor to the Lumia 1020, codenamed McLaren, has been making waves in the blogosphere. However, the project might have got cancelled or postponed and hence, there will be no Lumia 1030 until September 2015.

In hindsight, perhaps, Microsoft's strategy to concentrate on the inexpensive devices, targeting emerging markets could be paying off. But then, a balanced line-up of devices, could help the company improve its market share across the globe. And, in the process, Windows Phone fans may not have to wait for two long years or more to see a flagship device from the once unconquerable company, says GSM Arena.

As always, Microsoft has not confirmed any of the reports above. Meanwhile, there are companies like Sony that makes flagship devices twice per year, like in the case of the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3. Hopefully, Microsoft surprises the Windows Phone fans by introducing its flagship sooner than later. What do you think Microsoft should do? Feel free to leave a comment.
