Microsoft will be joining the fray of technology giants developing wearable gadgets. The company's latest smartwatch project will feature multiple sensors and heart rate monitoring capabilities. Its medical feature will be compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices.

The smartwatch will be further developed by Microsoft's Xbox Kinect division team enabling the device to constantly track heart rates throughout the day, according to Forbes.

The report said the watch's battery life can last up to two days. Various tech reports cited while Samsung's Gear Fit requires users to turn on the heart-rate monitor, Microsoft's smartwatch will continuously track the heart rate automatically the whole day. The watch will feature a color-touch screen placed in the wearer's wrist.

Microsoft has challenged several big tech companies like Apple and Samsung in the wearables segment as the market for it has started to make a potential.

Recent reports noted Apple will release its iWatch later this year and Samsung will introduce its smartwatch in the summer. Although Microsoft declined to comment when the smartwatch's exact date will be released, reports claimed the company may release its smartwatch project this summer.

Microsoft, in its attempt to make its own smartwatch, hopes its sensor-rich technology can have the same success of the company's Xbox and Kinect divisions. The Kinect division's optical engineers, designers, and data scientists assisted in the heart rate and fitness software data of the smartwatch, Forbes reported.

Microsoft noted one of the smartwatch's key features, which is the continuous heart rate, will attract consumers, especially those in the fitness and health demographic.

With this move, Microsoft could start the trend of having consumers treat wearable healthcare devices more seriously and strengthening its market.
