Microsoft's latest wallet-friendly smartphone, the Lumia 535, was released in November, whereas the Motorola Moto E second-generation device will hit the store shelves in 2015. Early specifications of the upcoming Moto E have been revealed recently and NDTV has picked up the configurations. Readers who are interested in the upcoming Moto E (Gen 2) or the latest Microsoft Lumia 535 should check out this comparison.

Display

The Lumia 535 features a 5.0-inch IPS LCD display and a modest screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, whereas the Moto E (Gen 2) will reportedly come with a relatively smaller 4.5-inch display. However, the Motorola handset's resolution is same as the Lumia device. Therefore, the pixel densities of Motorola and Microsoft handsets translate to 245 ppi and 220 ppi, respectively.

When it comes to design, the Microsoft Lumia 535 is enveloped in a plastic chassis, which is predominantly seen in virtually all the Lumia devices released thus far. Furthermore, the tech giant is offering six vivid colour choices with glossy exteriors. On the flipside, the over-the-top glossy, plastic exterior of the phone may not be appreciated by many buyers, as customers' interests are shifting towards devices with metal-clad exteriors. Nevertheless, the handset provides good grip and it is comfortable on the hands. On the other hand, the plastic exterior provides an inexpensive look to the device, according to Forbes.

As a remainder, the original Moto E sports a rugged exterior and hence, the device doesn't slip and it is comfortable on the hands. In specific, the slightly rubberised plastic back ensures good grip. Despite the fact that the Moto E is an inexpensive phone, it comes with a one-of-a-kind waterproof coating on the exterior. Nonetheless, this coating cannot be compared to the IP67 certified (water-resistant) devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 or the Sony Xperia Z3. In any case, the device is water-repellent and splash-proof. Meanwhile, the upcoming Moto E handset is expected to come with better design than the already incredible budget device.

Under the Hood

Moto E (Gen 2) will reportedly be powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 410) processor, clocked at 1.19 GHz. On the other hand, the Lumia handset is powered by an inferior quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 200) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz. In spite of the difference in processor configuration, both the handsets are backed by 1 GB of RAM.

With reference to the software configuration, the Lumia 535 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS, while the Moto E (Gen 2) will reportedly run on Android v5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box. As far as the memory goes, the Lumia handset comes equipped with 8 GB of internal storage capacity. Meanwhile, the Moto E successor is also expected to feature the same 8 GB storage. However, the original version of Moto E comes with only 4 GB capacity. In addition, both the handsets support microSD card for expansion.

Camera And Battery

Speaking of camera spec, both the phones sport the same 5 MP primary camera. While the Lumia 535 features a LED flash, the Moto E doesn't. Additionally, the Microsoft phone houses a respectable 5 MP snapper as the secondary camera, while the Moto E does not house a front-facing unit at all.

Moving on to the battery, the Lumia 535 is backed by a Li-Ion 1,905 mAh unit, whereas the Moto E specification is not known at this point. Readers should note that, aside from the standard connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB port, the Moto E (Gen 2) will reportedly support 4G LTE, whereas the Lumia smartphone doesn't.

Price

The Microsoft Lumia 535 will set the buyers back by US$169.99 via Expansys, which roughly translates to AU$203. On the other hand, the original Moto E is priced at US$129 without a contract. And therefore, the upcoming Moto E (Gen 2) will also be a low-cost device, says Phone Arena.
