Microsoft is officially the new owner of Wunderlist. Wunderlist, itself, confirmed this news shortly after the Wall Street Journal reported that the deal was already sealed. It was Christian Reber, the CEO and founder of 6wunderkinder, that confirmed this news on the Wunderlist Blog.

6wunderkinder is the German company that was behind Wunderlist. In the blog post, Reber gave some details about his company’s successes in the past, which include its user population that, to date, has reached over 13 million. Plus, app activity in Wunderlist has also been very high, as determined by a tallied 1 billion to-dos.

Under new ownership, Reber has insisted that there will be no changes with regards to how the app usually operates. The team working on Wunderlist will still be based in Berlin and they will reportedly resume the product development processes that they have been doing since their app had been launched to the public.

Although there will be no major changes in Wunderlist, Reber has claimed that it is highly likely that there will be new features soon, especially as Wunderlist will get deeper into the inner workings of Microsoft. That said, avid Wunderlist users may expect some tie-ins with other companies that Microsoft has also acquired quite recently, such as Sunrise – in addition to the ones that were officially announced just last month.

Under Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, it would appear that the company has been on a bit of a race with regards to the mobile software industry, having purposely acquired startup companies that have provided consumers with mobile apps for digital calendars and email apps.

Tech Crunch has pointed out that it would seem that Microsoft has a bit of a knack of acquiring companies that have already created a name for themselves, in terms of productivity. This actually seems to be a sound, solid strategy for a huge tech company that has the financial resources, as well as the reputation to build and develop growing mobile apps and devices.
