Dutch racing team Van Amersfoort Racing announced that they have signed Michael Schumacher’s 15-year-old son Mick on board. Mick will make his car-racing debut at the ADAC Formula 4 Series in April.

Van Amersfoort Racing team owner Frits van Amersfoort explained how they got in touch with Mick, who finished second in the German Junior Kart Championship. According to van Amersfoort, it has always been a practice for the Dutch racing team to offer the runner-up of German Junior Kart Championship a test session with their simulator.

They reportedly got in touch with Mick through the German motorsport authority. Schumacher’s son spent an entire day in their simulator in located in The Netherlands.

“We witnessed him (Mick) during a test session at Valencia,” van Amersfoort said in a statement. “We reached an agreement to compete together in this year’s ADAC Formula 4 series.

The complete lineup for Van Amersfoort Racing team will be announced as soon as the negotiations with other drivers have been finalised. The first round of the ADAC Formula 4 Championship will take place at Oschersleben from April 25 to April 26.

Mick has previously raced under the names of Mick Junior and Mick Betsch (his mother Corinna’s maiden name) in an effort to try to divert the attention away from him. However, Schumacher’s teenage son has managed to generate headlines after he began his karting career.

Mick began his racing career in karts at the age to 12. In his profile on Driver DB, it has been said that the first competition that Mick had taken part in was the Kerpener Kartchallenge - Bambini in 2011, where he finished first. In 2011, Mick finished third at the Euro Winter Cup - KF3. He also finished third at the Euro Winter Cup - KF3 and DMV Kart Championship - KF3 in 2012. Mick also secured a top three finish in the 2013 CIK-FIA International Super Cup – KFJ and 2013 German Junior Kart Championship. Mick’s best finish was a podium position at second place in the world karting championships in October 2014.
