Former Ferrari President Luca Cordero di Montezemolo recently spoke about the current health condition of seven-time Formula One (F1) world champion Michael Schumacher. Montezemolo described Schumacher’s fight for life as “terrible” in a recent interview.

Speaking to German news outlet RTL, the Italian businessman paid tribute to Schumacher saying that the German racing legend has been a significant part of the Prancing Horce marquee. He added that it pains him to witness Schumacher fight for life.

“He is an extraordinary person, who even in the most difficult moments was an absolute player, to see him in this situation is terrible,” Montezemolo said. “It’s a situation in which you don’t know what you should do, so I try to recall so many great moments in life that we celebrated together.”

Montezemolo said that he likes to picture Schumacher not only as an amazing F1 driver, but also as a great friend. He also paid his admiration to Schumacher’s family, who stood by the F1 legend’s side since the tragic skiing accident. The 68-year-old added that he is hoping to hear great news about the health condition of the seven-time F1 world champion.

Schumacher is still going through rehabilitation program in his Lake Geneva mansion after waking up from coma. It has been reported that a total of 15 medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and therapists, is helping the former F1 racer recover from the injuries he sustained nearly two years ago.

Auto Sport reported that former boss and family friend, FIA President Jean Todt, has been a regular visitor at Schumacher’s house. During a media briefing ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, Todt also revealed that the Schumacher is still fighting his health battle.

“I see Michael very often, and Michael is still fighting,” Todt said. “And we must keep fighting with the family.”

Montezemolo left Ferrari in September 2014 after serving the team for 23 years. He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in July 2015.
