A burning car drove into Marrylands Police Station on Thursday night. The driver, a Czech national in his 60s, was arrested and escorted to the Royal North Shore hospital for serious burns. The man reportedly lit the inside of the car on fire and drove into the police station’s car park. Luckily, the explosives inside the car did not explode.

The driver was reported to be in serious condition but stable. He was known to the police for having serious mental health issues. Police stated that they have ruled out any link to any terrorism group. Netizens questioned the quick ruling out, hinting that the driver's ethnicity factored the quick dimissal of any links to terrorism.

The car was reported to have been parking outside Merrylands Police Station around 7:00 p.m. The driver then set the car on fire before driving into the police station’s car park. The car rammed into and got stuck in the car park’s security door. The police officers quickly extinguished the fire and pulled out the driver.

Another report stated that the driver rammed the car first and threatened to trigger an explosion before setting himself and the car on fire. In both reports, no one was injured. The man was arrested at 8:00 p.m.

Assistant Commissioner Denis Clifford released a statement:

"We've got nothing to indicate that he's linked to anyone else. The priority now is to properly identify this person and then speak to any relatives he may have.

"To let them know what's occurred because he's in a very serious condition in hospital, and that will be out priority from here. We just don't know why this person has acted this way, yet it is a busy area, it was late night shopping got a lot of people around."

Witness Lisa Henderson said that she saw the police Taser the driver. The police, however, disputed the witness testimonies. Police security has been tightened after the police were targeted in attacks.
