A Melbourne father has been sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for sexually abusing her daughter and getting her pregnant at the age of 14. A Victorian County Court judge called the man’s crime as “the lowest depths of human depravity” on Friday.

According to the AAP, the man had pleaded guilty to making threats to inflict serious injury and persistently sexually abusing a child under 16. He had used a knife to threaten his daughter and force her to submit to his will. He will spend at least 10 years in jail.

The unnamed girl had attempted to run away from her father at just 9 years old when he began fondling her in a bedroom at their home. He had threatened her with a knife, telling her she should obey him. After the incident, he started raping his daughter whenever she was alone from school or while her mother and siblings were not home.

The father also forced her to watch pornographic films so she could repeat the sexual acts on him. Even when his parents came to Australia in 2015 for a visit, he still continued sexually abusing his daughter while his parents were in the house.

The girl was 14 last year when she began showing signs of pregnancy, which her mother noticed. However, the man insisted that their daughter was just suffering from kidney stones, even blaming the girl for not eating and drinking enough.

The mother learnt the truth when she took the girl to a doctor and the pregnancy was confirmed. The daughter confessed that she her father repeatedly sexually abused her. The mother then left home with her children and took her daughter to the police. The daughter later had a late-stage pregnancy termination.

The father did not deny the abuse, telling the police what he did was “sick.”

“You said to them, ‘I’m not a human being. I’m worse than an animal,’” the judge recalled to the court, according to AAP. She added, “Your criminality represents the lowest depths of human depravity. You exploited and abused your position of power over your daughter.”

In a separate case also on Friday, another Melbourne man was given at least six years of jail for sexually abusing a child. The ice cream vendor, who pleaded not guilty, was sentenced to a maximum of nine years, with a non-parole period of six years.

A Victorian County Court judge said the man did not show any sign of remorse.
