“Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony” is the next entry in the “Danganronpa” franchise. While it is independent from the previous games — in that it features a new cast of characters, signifying the beginning of a new saga — it still maintains the classic formula of a group of students (who have all been handpicked as "Ultimates" in their respective fields) engaging in a class trial orchestrated by antagonist Monokuma. Most recently, the game’s website updated its class roster, revealing more information on the characters joining the story.

Previously, the story’s protagonist, Kaede Akamatsu, was revealed to be the Ultimate Pianist. Alongside her came the reveal of a few other characters, including Miu Iruma (Ultimate Inventor) and Kokichi Oma (Ultimate Supreme Leader). There is also Rantaro Amami, though his ultimate "ability" remains a mystery.

Now, “Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony” has introduced four more characters: K1-Bo (Ultimate Robot), Gonta Gokuhara (Ultimate Entomologist), Shuichi Saihara (Ultimate Detective) and Tsumugi Shirogane (Ultimate Cosplayer). There are still several other details concealed to the public. They will slowly be rolled out as the video game’s release date draws closer.

As mentioned earlier, the new “Danganronpa” entry will be the first in the franchise’s new saga. The previous saga, “Hope’s Peak Academy,” featured three games: “Trigger Happy Havoc,” its sequel (“Goodbye Despair”), and an in-between title called “Ultra Despair Girls.” The saga wrapped up with an anime series divided in three parts. It aired in Japan from July to September 2016.

Notably, “Killing Harmony” will be the first in the series to follow the class trial formula with a female protagonist. Although “Ultra Despair Girls” featured female leads (Komaru Naegi and Toko Fukawa), its gameplay was different in a way that the title was a third-person adventure. It did not take after the typical visual novel approach of the other two games, so “Ultra Despair Girls” was considered a spin-off entry.

The newest “Danganronpa” game has been available in Japan since January, and it will be released in North America and Europe on September 26 and 29, respectively. Australia, on the other hand, will be receiving the game on October 6. “Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony” will be available for the PlayStation Vita. It will also be available on the PlayStation 4, making it the first game in the franchise to be available on a home console.
