The probable Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight in 2015 is pegged to be one of the biggest in the history of the sport of boxing. Already there are reports that both fighters could earn from a combined fight purse of over $150 million. But how much will it cost to for fight fans to watch the fight?

In an article by Ivan G. Goldman for boxinginsider.com, the New York Times best-selling author speculated that the pay-per-view (PPV) price for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao super fight could reach north of $100 for each subscriber.

“If they do fight, fans will have to pay plenty to see them do it. I’ve seen pay-per-view estimates range as high as $100,” Goldman stated in the aptly titled article called “Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather PPV Price Could Escape Earth’s Orbit”. “I don’t think we can expect a three-figure number, but it will be close.”

Goldman went on to state the Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri PPV prices which cost him $72 to watch the fight on pay T.V. Pay-per-view rates for popular boxing matches will run from $50 to $75 for every subscriber. What about watching the match live? In the most recent Mayweather fight where he won the second time against Marcos Maidana last September 2014, prices were reportedly at roughly $900 on the average and it increased to around $1,160 as the fight drew closer.

Safe to say, Goldman’s contention that the prices for the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao bout will be exorbitant is not unfounded. After all, it is an in-demand fight not only from boxing enthusiasts but sports fans in general. It has also been highly-anticipated for years now and if both agree to the fight the hype and anticipation will double— along with the projected ticket prices for the live gates and the PPV rates.

There is no final word yet on the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight even as the undefeated American has chosen to be silent on the reported negotiations. However, it’s the opposite of for the FIlipino’s camp, which has repeatedly stated in recent weeks that they want the super fight to happen in 2015.

If and when Pacquiao and/or Mayweather finally and officially announce the fight, expect more speculations on the probable prices for both live and PPV numbers— and expect that it won’t come cheap as it could very well be the fight of the century.
