Matt Barnes, the Sacramento Kings forward, is wanted for questioning by New York police after he allegedly choked a woman inside the Avenue nightclub early Monday morning in New York City. There were reports that Barnes was seen attacking the woman while they were having an argument.

It has been claimed that cops got a 911 call to Avenue Nightclub after midnight, reporting a man assaulting two women and another man. Police authorities also said that things got physical when Barnes allegedly choked one woman during an argument. There were also two other people who tried to intervene but he also punched both of them.

Police identified the alleged victim as the Sacramento Kings forward’s girlfriend. Sources said that the incident started when Barnes and his 26-year-old girlfriend had an argument. They were seen sitting at the table having some disagreements. A few minutes later, the NBA player allegedly put his hands around her neck. After which, a man and a woman tried to intervene, but when the cops arrived, they fled the scene.

“There’s always two sides to a story. The side the media consistently tries to paint of me ... And what actually happened! Don’t believe everything you read,” Barnes, 36, posted on Instagram Monday afternoon.

Barnes' attorney, Alex Spiro, told Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee that he does not believe a crime was committed. "We are cooperating with law enforcement and are hopeful no charges will be pressed." Police are still continuing the investigation.

Before the dispute happened, Kings lost to the Knicks 106-98.
