A sensual, divine and indulgent episode welcomed fans of Network Ten’s “MasterChef Australia” Season 8, with domestic goddess Nigella Lawson as the special guest chef for the week. On episode 16 aired on May 22, the contestants cooked their hearts out not only to satisfy the British celebrity chef, but judges Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris and Matt Preston as well. In the end, three home cooks put out absolutely heavenly dishes that had Nigella and judges raving. The “queen of food porn” was so delighted about Mimi Baines’ dessert that she planted a kiss on her cheek.

However, three other amateur chefs will be put on the chopping block on the next episode, to battle it out to survive another day in the competition. Jimmy Wong, Chloe Bowles and Miles Pritchett will all wear the dreaded black apron to determine who couldn’t take the heat of the “MasterChef Australia” kitchen.

Network Ten posted a sneak peek of Monday night’s episode that features another pressure test, described as one of the toughest in “MasterChef” history. Unlike previous elimination challenges, Jimmy, Chloe and Miles have to whip up more than one plate within 60 minutes. Three dishes mean three times the pressure, the judges warn.

Chloe finds herself in the pressure test for the third time this season. During the last elimination challenge, she managed to put out the best dish to save herself. Fans wonder whether she has become a pressure test expert, enough to survive another day.

“MasterChef Australia” Season 8 recap

Nigella proved to be a powerful presence in the “MasterChef Australia” kitchen, leaving not just the contestants, but even the judges, star-struck and speechless. She stayed true to her reputation of being flirty and suggestive, turning on the charm with the contestants. She threw in a compliment to Matt Sinclair, saying that she loves a man in a flowery shirt. Speaking of clothes, Nigella flaunted her curves with her figure-hugging maroon dress, the 56-year-old culinary queen told the contestants that she wore something stretchy so she could “eat a lot.” She revealed that night’s mystery box, containing ingredients that she chose herself: butternut pumpkin, chestnut, chicken thigh, pipis, fresh ginger, pancetta, feta and cumin, her favorite spice.

Heather Day turned out to be the pleasant surprise during the mystery box challenge, and her open filo with pumkin pie was deemed the winning dish. It earned her a massive advantage, giving her the option to choose among chocolate, lemons and pistachio as the hero ingredient for the invention test. The 32-year-old sales manager picked chocolate, to the delight of the other contestants, especially Karmen Lu.

Karmen redeemed herself from a disastrous team challenge and pressure test previously, and served “the prettiest” dish according to Nigella. Her chocolate decadence with mousse, gelato and miso caramel tasted delightful as it looked, earning unanimous positive comments from the judges. Karmen was back to her composed self, however, that the judges prodded her to feel more excited about her achievement.

Harry Foster was also named among the top three, with his divinely indulgent white chocolate and rose royales. When it’s his turn to serve his dish, Nigella smiled at him and said, “Harry, it’s time to taste yours.” Rounding up the best dishes for the night was Mimi’s, which is a salted chocolate tart with beetroot sorbet. Nigella loved it so much that she took away the plate for more. She paid Mimi the highest compliment when she went to give the 26-year-old product manager to give a peck on her cheek.

The sugar rush everyone was feeling came crashing down, however, when it was time to announce the bottom three who would face the pressure test. Jimmy’ buried chocolate, Chloe’s white chocolate semifreddo with raspberry champagne sauce and Miles’ white chocolate gelato with cheesecake and chantilly cream failed to follow the brief and all ended up to be a sweet mess.
