ABC and Marvel Television provided a new synopsis for the second half of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4. Subtitled, “LMD,” the next episode will feature the new kinds of threats that the team will face.

Spoiler alert! This article contains "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." spoilers. Read on if you would like to know what happens next before the new episode airs.

According to the official synopsis, the team has just finished dealing with Ghost Rider, but will immediately discover the strangest phenomenon. They will be facing various threats in the second half of the season, namely anti-Inhuman Watchdogs that are quickly getting political foothold with the aid of Senator Nadeer (Parminder Nagra) and a mysterious benefactor. Previously, Aida (Mallory Jansen) has also kidnapped Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) and substituted her with an LMD or Life Model Decoy. It is still uncertain what Aida has in store for May and the team.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” ended the first half of Season 4 by showing that May was replaced with the LMD that Aida created. During the winter interim, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot” was featured, which consisted of six episodes.

According to executive producer Jed Whedon, Aida is an impressive technological creation, although not as self-aware and ruthless as Ultron. Whedon said at the start of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4 that LMD’s mimic human behaviour, but the real difference is how they represent people that everyone knows, notes Screener. This means that LMDs are not primarily evil. They are apparently not omniscient or independent, so Aida’s act of kidnapping May could have been triggered by Radcliffe’s (John Hannah) orders.

The second half of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” may delve into discovering what Radcliffe’s motivation is for replacing May with an LMD. On the other hand, Aida does not seem to be too involved with human emotions, although she first experienced physical pain earlier in the season. She may be programmed to protect people, although her means in doing so can be destructive to others. More about Aida, Agent May and the team will be shown in the next episode of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 4.

“LMD” will air on Jan. 10, 2017 on ABC. In Australia, the show will air on SyFy.
