“Empire” Season 2 star Jussie Smollett, 32, has confirmed that Mariah Carey, 45, will appear on the sophomore season of the Fox hit series. This is almost a year after her appearance on “Real Husbands of Hollywood” in 2014.

At the 17th Annual DesignCare Gala of the HollyRod Foundation, Smollett told People that the rumor about the “Empire” Season 2 appearance of the estranged wife of Nick Cannon, 34, is true. He said, “That makes me feel so good to say that rumor is true.”

Describing Carey as “just the best,” “a good human being” and “a really sweet lady,” Smollett said the former “American Idol” judge says “Darling” a lot, so he says the same thing as well as a joke. He added that their friendship “works very well.”

Carey has yet to start filming for “Empire” Season 2. Smollett refused to reveal details about Carey’s role, but he shared that there will be “some deep changes” and “some really painful things that happen.”

According to Smollett, “Empire” Season 2 is so exciting that the audience needs to keep riding with the characters and stick with it because it is set to be in the next level. He also revealed that his character Jamal Lyon is “certainly not the same.”

Prior to this, Lee Daniels, 55, revealed that Carey would be making an appearance on the upcoming season of the Fox series. During the ceremony for Carey's Hollywood Walk of Fame star, “Empire” co-creator Danny Strong told the crowd to watch to watch the singer on the drama series.

Meanwhile, “America’s Got Talent” Season 10 judge Howie Mandel, 59, recently took to Facebook to share how he pranked Carey’s estranged husband. The comedian shared a photo of Cannon wearing large headphones while sleeping on a private plane with magazine articles of Carey posted above the wall behind him.
