Mariah Carey, 46, received criticisms over her vocals after returning to the Billboard Music Awards stage after 17 years. During the music awards ceremony held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 17, she performed her 1990 hit “Vision Of Love” and her new song “Infinity.”

It has been weeks since Carey kicked off her Las Vegas residence at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. After her 2015 Billboard Music Awards performance, one of her critics tweeted, “Nick Cannon must of took Mariah Carey's voice as part of the divorce settlement.”

This is not the first time Carey was criticized over her vocals. In December 2014, she was criticized over her live performance of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” She was dealing with divorce from Nick Cannon, 34, at the time.

Carey and Cannon got married on April 30, 2008. Months after confirming they had separated for a few months, Cannon filed for divorce on Dec. 12, 2014. They have two children together, the eight-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan.

“Infinity,” which is a breakup song, is said to be about Cannon. Coinciding Carey’s Las Vegas launch party, the song premiered on April 27. Its accompanying music video was directed by “Horrible Bosses 2” director Brett Ratner.

Currently, Carey is recovering from bronchitis. On May 14, she took to Instagram to apologize for cancelling a show. In a post, she wrote that she is “almost better but on mandatory vocal rest per doctor’s orders.”

While trying to exhibit her signature vocal acrobatics, Carey was backed up by a band all dressed in white. Baring her cleavage, the plunging metallic dress worn by the diva was from Kuwaiti celebrity designer Yousef Al-Jasmi, according to E! News.

Despite the criticisms, Carey’s performance apparently impressed award-winning actresses Ellen Pompeo and Laverne Cox. The two actresses were spotted on their feet while Carey was performing on the Billboard Music Awards stage, according to Billboard.

Pompeo is set to return to “Grey’s Anatomy” season 12 without Patrick Dempsey, who played Dr. Derek Shepherd for 11 seasons. Cox, on the other hand, is currently filming TV movie “Doubt.” She starred in “Orange Is The New Black” from 2013 to 2014.
