Maria Sharapova's career can tax her skin. Sharapova sometimes trains and play professional tennis under the sun, but she does not worry about her skin that much and she has even managed to keep a glowing complexion. For the Russian tennis star, it is all about taking care of your skin and this helps her prepare and recover in all her athletic endeavours.

Speaking to Healthy Hollywood, Sharapova revealed that skin care was always a part of her beauty regimen ever since she was a young girl. The four-time Grand Slam champion said that her mother had thought her into thinking beyond about what she can do for her skin.

Tennis athletes, like Sharapova, are at risk of overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation that causes not only wrinkles but also eye damage, and it ultimately leads to skin cancer. She said that applying sun protection was a regular beauty regimen for her before she embarks on gruelling match on the tennis court.

According to Sharapova, the results of the benefits of sunscreen cannot be seen outright or from the moment you started applying the skin product.

"It's really skin cancer protection and it is aging and protecting your skin years down the line," she said.

In addition to skin care, Sharapova said that part of her beauty routine is maintaining hydration in her body. She said she keeps her body hydrated before she plays a match. Sharapova said she starts her day by drinking half a litre of water.

As a professional tennis player, Sharapova's skin go through fatigue and weather-beaten elements. She is best at what she does. She has made her name in the sporting world of tennis. Despite her prominence in the sport, she has made sure that she is not missing one important routine and that is to take care of her skin.

Recently, Sharapova became the co-owner of SuperGoop, a skincare company that is dedicated to sun protection.

In an interview with Vogue, Sharapova discoursed her decision to capitalize in SuperGoop. She was using the product after she saw it on cosmetic store Sephora. She later met, SuperGoops's founder Holly Thaggard, and eventually became the company's co-owner and ambassador.

Sharapova is expected to compete in the 2014 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open in China. The tournament will take place from Sept. 21 to Sept. 27. She was also qualified to compete in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Championships in Singapore.
