Chris Algieri is a huge underdog in his fight against Manny Pacquiao but that’s not stopping the undefeated American from believing that he has a legit shot versus the boxer he referred to as a “legend”.

The well-educated and articulate Algieri showed enough class and respect for the eight-division world boxing champion in Pacquiao in a recent interview in the Ferrall On The Bench radio show on CBS Sports complimenting Pacquiao and yet claiming that he can pull off the upset come Nov. 22 at the Cotai Arena in Macau.

“I’m in it. I’m super in it right now. I’m not getting lost in the lights of it. I’m not getting overwhelmed and being aggravated by it. I’m just really in it and focused on the task of hand, and really, I’m going out there to beat Manny Pacquiao and to beat a legend. That’s the only thing on my mind,” Algieri said in the radio interview when asked of his focus for the fight with extra media attention and coverage during his training camp in New Jersey.

Algieri’s trainer, Keith Trimble in a quote from a philboxing.com article, agreed with his ward regarding how the training camp has been excellent for Algieri and added that they are already ready to go in Algieri’s biggest fight in his career.

“It’s great. He is right on point. He is in shape like usual. He is fast, strong. He is good to go,” Trimble stated in the article. “He sparred three times. It is good. It is like we just left off from his last fight. After the first sparring session, his timing is there. He’s already getting there. He did six rounds each time with no problem. Like I said again, his conditioning is never an issue.”

To upset a boxer of Pacquiao’s calibre, Algieri must be prepared to be peppered with punches from Pacquiao who is known for his aggressive and constant attacking inside the ring.

Pacquiao is favoured to win the match at 3/50 according to the latest betting odds while Algieri is priced at a 13/2 betting line— which means for every $100 bet on the American will net a payout of roughly $750.

Team Algieri is scheduled to travel to Macau two weeks before the fight and continue the training camp in the country considered as the gambling capital of Asia. Pacquiao is not only favoured in the betting lines but also with home advantage as the Philippines, where Pacquiao is from, is about an hour away by plane from Macau.

Algieri (20-0-0, 8 knockouts) was also a huge underdog in his previous fight against Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia. Algieri pulled off the surprise upset by winning via split decision, 114-112, 114-112 and 109-117 despite going down twice in the opening round.

Algieri will aim for Manny Pacquiao’s head and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world welterweight title in the November fight. Meanwhile, Pacquiao (56-5-3, 38 knockouts) is not underestimating the undefeated American but many considers the fight as a tune-up for bigger bouts in 2015, possibly against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
