Manny Pacquiao Decided to Still Continue Boxing Career Despite Wife’s Plea
Manny Pacquiao was shockingly knocked out in his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez but that does not stop the Filipino boxing champ.
According to Pacquiao, he still wants to continue boxing even though his wife Jinkee requested him to retire now.
The 33-year-old Filipino boxer fell down face first on the canvas from a knock-out punch then remained unconscious for several seconds as his wife tried to enter the ring. Jinkee Pacquiao admitted that she was terrified after witnessing what happened to her husband causing her to scream and cry before promoter Bob Arum calmed her down.
"It's the first time I've seen him like that, lying on the canvas, and I was scared,'' Jinkee Pacquiao told USA TODAY Sports. "I know he is still capable of fighting but for me there is nothing to prove. He already has eight title belts. He can retire - stop - at anytime. I want him to stop now. But he is the one who has the last say. Boxers risk their lives, some end up in wheelchairs. I don't want that to happen to Manny," Jinkee further stated.
Manny Pacquiao confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that he has no intentions of retiring after his loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.
"I remember hitting the canvas. My head dropped - boom! But I feel good. He just got lucky with that one punch. It made good impact because my face was going forward. It was all timing. He threw the punch without looking and he was surprised it landed. But give him credit," Pacquiao stated.
One significant basis why Manny Pacquiao wants to continue fighting is his finances. "Pacquiao has already earned huge sums of money in the last three years which includes an estimated gross of $175 million in the ring," Bob Arum revealed to USA TODAY Sports.
The couple reportedly has an extravagant money spending habits aside from the donations given to charitable causes. Mike Koncz, business adviser and chief negotiator of Manny Pacquiao, is now a little bit concerned over the couple's unnecessary lifestyle.
"Sometimes Manny gets angry with me because I'm overprotective of his money," Koncz revealed to USA TODAY Sports.
"In a general sense, we're not in the position to sustain the same lifestyle now if he were to stop fighting tomorrow. He could quit tomorrow and live comfortably. Could he quit tomorrow and live extravagantly like we are now? No," Koncz further added.
Manny Pacquiao returned to the Philippines where his family and friends gave him a warm welcome. He will celebrate his 34th birthday on December 17 then go on a come back holiday trip to Israel with several family members from December 19-30.
