Manny Pacquiao has reportedly completed a drug test required by Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s camp for the blockbuster fight on May 2. Pacquiao gave his urine and blood samples to a medical technician, who came without warning at Pan Pacific Park in Los Angeles where the Filipino eight-division world champion was training.

Philippine news and public affairs program 24 Oras reported on March 15 that Pacquiao underwent a surprise drug test ahead of the long-awaited bout against the undefeated American fighter at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas in Cinco de Mayo weekend. According to Pacquiao, he has no worries about the drug test. He is optimistic that he will pass the drug test with flying colours and even suggested that he would be more than willing to pay $5 million dollars if he tested positive for the use of illegal drugs.

Pacquiao has never tested positive for illegal or performance-enhancing drugs in his professional boxing career. However, he came under fire after he allegedly refused to agree to Mayweather’s demand of Olympic-style drug testing when their bout was first discussed back in 2009. Both fighters didn’t reach an agreement on the drug testing then, which is why the super fight failed to materialise.

Recently, it has been reported that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, or USADA will administer the drug test for both fighters ahead of the super fight. If either Pacquiao or Mayweather tests positive for the use of illegal drugs, they will face a four-year ban from the sport.

“It’s a strong statement of the importance of clean and safe competition to have these two fighters voluntarily agree to have WADA level anti-doping program implemented for this fight,” USADA Chief Executive Travis Tygart said in a statement. “We commend them for their stand for clean sport and the message it sends to all those who want to compete clean at the highest levels of sport.”

Meanwhile, both Pacquiao and Mayweather have gone back to their respective training camps to continue their preparations for the mega-buck blockbuster fight on May 2. Pacquiao has constantly been sharing snaps and videos of him during training on Instagram to keep his supporters updated on how he is shaping up for the fight.
