Manny Pacquiao To Be ‘Exposed’, Freddie Roach ‘Nervous’ Declares Team Algieri
Two weeks ahead of the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri, the war of words from both camps is heating up. Weeks ago, Pacquiao’s head trainer, Freddie Roach, told scribes that the Filipino is in tip-top shape already and has been beating up his sparring partners, who in Roach’s opinion is better than their next opponent, Algieri.
The undefeated Algieri apparently did not take Roach’s shots lightly and fired back at the world-renowned trainer.
“He’s nervous,” Algieri said via hustleboss.com when asked of Roach’s negative comments. “Simple as that. He’s acting out of character because he’s nervous. That doesn’t stuff doesn’t affect me at all. I’m not that guy. It’s not going to work on me.”
Roach has never hold back in the past in criticising and talking trash against Pacquiao’s opponents claiming many knockouts or victories weeks or months before a fight. Algieri is a huge underdog against Pacquiao when the fight was announced months ago and is still a big underdog both in the wagering lines and public’s eyes two weeks before the pay-per-view bout.
Meanwhile, Mike Newson, the trainer for Chris Algieri has some bold declarations about his ward’s big fight against Pacquiao as well.
“We’re really going to expose Manny in this fight. I think A lot of people are going to be surprised that after November 22nd there’s going to be a new champ in town,” Newson confidently stated in a Hustle Boss YouTube video. Newson, who was with Algieri for his last three bouts mentioned that they are going to control the fight early with Algieri’s range and take over in the latter rounds owing to Algieri’s stamina.
It’s going to be easier said than done for the 5-foot-10 Algieri as the 5-foot-6 1/2 Pacquiao has soundly beaten taller opponents in the past including the likes of 5-foot-8 Joshua Clottey, 5-foot-8 1/2 Shane Mosley and 5-foot-11 Antonio Margarito among other rangy and lengthy fighters the Filipino has faced on top of the ring.
The Manny Pacquiao vs. Chris Algieri “Clash in Cotai 2” will be for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) world welterweight title and will be held on Nov. 23 (Nov. 22 in the United States) at the Cotai Arena, Venetian Resort in Macau.
