After a very indifferent 2013-14 season fans all over the world wanted a fresh start to their beloved club this time around. The first thing that the board of directors did was to appoint a proven manger in the Dutch Louis van Gaal and provided him with sufficient money to reshape the team according to his philosophies.

The first point of business that the manager conducted after returning from a fairly successful World Cup was to name the long serving Wayne Rooney as the captain of his side. Unfortunately the season started on a wrong foot. Much to the disappointment of the supporters his team seemed to be a continuation of the failures of last year. They could neither score nor defend. They lost their first match of the season at home against Swansea City FC and more disappointments followed.

The manager went and bought some high-profile players including Angle Di Maria from Real Madrid FC and Radamel Falcao on a season loan from Monaco. His team responded and they started to pick up points.

In the first big match of the season they escaped unscathed to hold the table topper Chelsea to a draw. Their lowest point in the season so far came against arch rivals Manchester City FC. Away from home they lost that match.

Manchester United FC responded in the best way possible with a home win against Crystal Palace FC and played their best away match against Arsenal, winning it two-one. These two results revitalised their team and they went on to win six matches on the trot finishing the run with their best performance of the season so far. A three nil victory against Liverpool was the icing on the cake just before Christmas. This run has seen them move to the third place on the league table during this festive season.
