In a decisive match at the Champions League, Bayern Munich ruled the ground of Old Trafford, defeating Manchester United by 3-1.

United is having an awful time this season as it is out of the Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup. The Champions League was the last gleam of hope left aside to redeem some fresh breath for David Moyes and his squad. But that dream was shattered despite a classic goal from Patrice Evra that put Manchester in lead.

Bayern was quick to react and finally added three goals to oust United from the Premier League.

Manchester United was bound to get their first break in 8th minute time when Wayne Rooney got a superb lead but was too slow to react to the shot.

The first half of the match was goalless. Bayern Munich ruled the show, while Manchester United seemed to be struggling to keep pace with the Germans.

The second half of the match was all drama when Patrice Evra scored a superb goal to lead United by 1-0. Evra gave absolutely no chance as he placed a superb bullet shot to let the ball from 25 yards to let it rest under the net in 57 minutes.

But hell broke loose when Bayern got back to the groove with ardent effort to surpass United. Within 2 minutes of the first goal, Mario Mandzukic placed a sensational header, leading to equaliser.

The second goal came in 68 minutes when Thomas Müller simply dissuaded United's defence to let the ball cross the goal line.

The third and the final assault was made by Arjen Robben in 76 minutes as he ran with the ball alone from mid-field, dribbling United all along the way and ended with an amazing shot from the penalty box.

Bayern finally moved to the semifinal with an aggregate point of 4-2 after the match. Bad day for Moyes as his men could not prove their ability, despite Evra's early lead.

"I thought the players did a great job tonight, the only crime was conceding a goal after we scored, 30 seconds afterwards ... It's the sort of thing you learn as a schoolboy. We concentrated so fabulously well throughout the game, the players did their jobs, their positioning and awareness (was good), and to give up that goal at that moment was really disappointing," Moyes said after the match.

After the equaliser, Bayern took total control of the match against the sheepish United. It looked a one-sided match at one point of time.

"I knew it would be difficult. It's not easy to play against eight players in the box and we decided to try to create a pass in the middle ... They defended the crosses well, but at the end, after 1-1, we played much better and we deserved to be in the semi-final," Bayern's coach Pep Guardiola added after the win.
