Ugandan football player Musana Fahad, 24 years old, has died of unknown reasons after watching Frank Lampard of Manchester City force a tie against Chelsea in a match last Saturday.

According to a report by supersport.com, Fahad was “all lively enjoying the City-Chelsea game until that moment when Lampard equalized.”

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) expressed shock with the sad news.

“The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is in shock after receiving news about the sudden death of Simba FC player Musana Fahad in Bombo this evening,” said the official statement from the Ugandan football association.

“The death of Musana comes with total shock to the local football fraternity as the central defender played the entire game of his club’s 1-0 win over Entebbe FC in the Uganda Premier League match played at Nakivubo stadium Musana and the army side’s training session this morning in Bombo.”

Coaches and co-players were equally shocked with the sudden death of their teammate:

“We trained with him at Bombo and there was no problem with him whatsoever,” Fred Kajoba, head coach for Simba FC said via the same supersports article. “I’m still in shock.”

“He has been a passionate fan of Chelsea and would do anything for the club, apart from gambling,” Gerald Bagoole, also a player for Simba FC, added in the report.

Fahad was a defender for the Simba FC in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) since 2013 and even played the full match in their last game— a win versus Entebbe FC.

Chelsea was ahead, 1-0 at the 71st minute over Manchester City in the English Premier League match over the weekend. The Lampard equaliser came 14 minutes later and it was costly not only for Chelsea but also for a die-hard Chelsea fan.
