Brandon Dassey, a United States inmate, was featured in Netflix series “Making a Murderer.” The prosecutors are saying that his confession should be considered as legal. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2007 after being allegedly involved in the death of photographer Teresa Halbach. The 27-year-old told the detectives that he helped his uncle, Steven Avery, rape and kill Halbach in the Avery family's Manitowoc County salvage yard.

In August, a federal magistrate judge overturned Dassey's conviction. His contention is that investigators coerced Dassey into confessing. After which, the judge agreed and believed that the detectives took advantage of his cognitive problems and youth since he was still 16 years old at that time.

Attorneys from the state Justice Department have appealed the judge's ruling to the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals on Dec.21. In their brief, they stated that Dassey's claims have no grounds. The attorneys who made such appeal were Attorney General Brad Schimel, Solicitor General Misha Tseytlin and Deputy Solicitor General Luke Berg.

The brief stated that Dassey gave detectives very detailed information every time he was asked a question. It even includes colours and sounds from the scene in the salvage yard. Aside from that, he also described Halbrach's screams and conversations. The timing of events and his motivations are very specific. Lastly, the attorneys wrote that if taken together, those details suggest the confession was probably voluntary and true. The attorneys of Dassey didn’t reply to the email after it was received by them on Thursday.

Netflix started airing "Making a Murderer” last year, which gained a lot of attention among its viewers. The TV series is a multi-part series focused on Halbach's death and the Avery family, who were allegedly involved in the killing.

"Making a Murderer" is available on Netflix Australia.
