Waze, a Google-owned navigation app, has introduced the Waze Transport SDK, a software development kit that allows partners to integrate Waze’s features into their own applications. The initial set of partners includes Lyft, Genesis Pulse, JustPark, Cornershop, Cabify and 99Taxis.

“The SDK is capable of supporting a partner in any country where Waze has a presence and will be open to all types of partners where Waze believes it can have an impact, for example food delivery, valet parking and more,” says Waze.

This means the aforementioned partners can now use Waze’s own navigation and mapping technology to provide preferred and better routes, reacg out to more customers during the same span of time and help users an during emergency.

The Waze SDK will help businesses improve their own services; utilise turn-by-turn navigation and enable professional drivers to avoid switching between apps. For passengers, this means not having to wait for longer period of time and catching a ride through a faster and safer route. Moreover, the 50 million+ Waze community as a whole will be able to feed more data back to the Waze app.

“This will make Lyft more efficient for both drivers and passengers,” says Lyft in a blog post.

Waze, launched back in 2007 uses data from crowdsourcing to provide accurate and best possible routes for users on the road. The app especially helps drivers to chalk out routes during heavy traffic.

It also comes up with traffic alerts by providing real-time information on road hazards. The app is said to have helped reduce congestion and pollution in major cities across the globe.

Lyft, Cornershop and JustPark are offering special discounts to celebrate the new partnership. The first 10 rides on Lyft will be offered just at US$5. Use the code WAZE10 and get 10 pounds off for availing JustPark services.
