The Lumia 950 XL is the flagship phablet from Microsoft that’s got monstrous specs. It competes aginst the immensely popular phablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 5.

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL comes with some unique features like Continuum and an iris scanner currently unavailable on other flagship smartphones from major brands. Here’s a comparison of the specifications, features and price of the Lumia 950 XL and the Galaxy Note 5:

Design and Display

The Lumia 950 XL sports a elegantly designed polycarbonate body that weighs 165 grams and measures 151.9 mm x 78.4 mm x 8.1 mm. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a slimmer phone as it measures 7.6 mm. It measures 153.2 mm x 76.1 mm and weighs 171 grams. The Note 5 has a rich and premium appeal as its chassis is a combination of glass and metal.

Both handsets feature AMOLED displays of 5.7 inches that support Quad HD resolution. The Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protects the displays of the Lumia 950 XL, as well as the Note 5.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The Snapdragon 810 drives the Lumia 950 XL with its 2.0 GHz 64-bit octa-core processor and 3 GB of RAM. The external storage supports up to 200 GB of microSD card. The internal storage available on the handset is 32 GB.

The Galaxy Note 5 is powered by Exynos 7420 chipset that features a 64-bit octa-core CPU working at 2.1 GHz. It’s coupled with 4 GB of RAM. Samsung axed the additional microSD storage for the Note 5 this year. It’s available in two storage flavors: 32 GB and 64 GB.

Camera and Unique Features

The Lumia 950 XL has a rear-facing 20 MP camera that offers features like OIS and three-LED flash. The iPhone 6S Plus has a 16 MP camera coupled with features like OIS and dual-LED flash. Both handsets feature 5 MP front-facing cameras.

No other well-known phablet in the market offers an intuitive stylus like the S-Pen stylus of the Galaxy Note 5. The Samsung phablet also has health-centric sensors for heart rate and SpO2. It also features a fingerprint sensor.

The Lumia 950 XL was built to deliver topnotch productivity. By hooking it up to a monitor, keyboard and mouse through docking station, the Lumia 950 XL can deliver a desktop PC experience, Phone Arena reported.

Instead of a fingerprint sensor, the Microsoft phablet is enabled with iris scanning biometric recognition feature. It also features the new USB Type-C connector. Both the handsets feature LTE Cat. 6 for 4G connectivity.

Battery and Price

The Lumia 950 XL is packed with a removable 3,340 mAh battery and its unlocked version will be available for $649 (AU$904). The Galaxy Note 5 features a 3,000 mAh non-replaceable battery. On Amazon, the unlocked Galaxy Note 5 with 32 GB is listed for $698 (AU$970).
