The January transfer window is upon us and all clubs will be trying to make deals to strengthen their clubs by either bringing in players or their financial situation by selling them. For Arsenal, who are in great financial health, the priority is to bring in players who would strengthen their side.

With the arrival of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, Lukas Podolski has lost out on a lot of playing time. With even more competition up front Arsenal are listening to offers for a six months loan deal with an option to make it permanent. Incidentally the German World Cup winner has one year left on his contract. Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus are the likely destination for the German international. According to The Mirror, Inter Milan are the most interested club to sign Podolski. "There is nothing concrete on Podolski", Wenger said to add fire to the notion that he is not central to his plans anymore.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are in the market to land West Ham United FC defender Winston Reid. An offer of approximately AU $ 8 M (£ 4 M) could land the Gunners their target. Arsenal do not have a recognized centre half as a backup if their first choice pairing of Per Mertesacker and Laurant Koscielny are unavailable.

In another report in The Independent, Sporting Lisbon holding midfielder William Carvalho might be an Arsenal player soon if the Portuguese club accept the AU $ 40 M (£ 20 M) bid that Arsenal are offering them. Arsene Wenger has tracked Carvalho for close to a year now and is an admirer of the young man. The 22 year old might be tempted to move to North London after his current club failed to advance in the Champions League. For Arsenal he would offer them a long term solution in their defensive side of play.
