A 26-year-old mother of two has left her kids with a babysitter last month, has reportedly gone to the Middle East to join the Islamic State militant group.

Jasmina Milovanov, who likes to be called Assma Abdullah, told her friends she needed to travel to Queensland to buy a new car. Meanwhile, her friends said they have been contacted by the police to investigate her whereabouts. A close friend of the Sydney mother revealed authorities visited family and friends after it was confirmed that she had left the country.

While the authorities were investigating the matter with the help of those close to her, none of her friends had any idea that the 26-year-old has been contemplating to join the IS group for a while.

Sources close to Jasmina aka Assma told the ABC they could not contact her when she did not return for her kids. But they later got to know about Assma’s location through a message received via Facebook.

As The Truth Surfaced

A Melbourne woman who travelled to Syria last year to marry her boyfriend sent a message to Assma’s friends. "Zehra Duhman gave us initial confirmation that she'd gone over there. She said Assma [Jasmina] is safe. She recently made hijrah to Sham [Syria]. She's being looked after well."

Another close friend, who didn’t want to reveal to her identity in the media said Assma often posted on Facebook or social media platforms about finding a husband. "What we believe is Assma really wanted to get married, she was very lonely ... we think that's how they've encouraged her to go," the friend said. Her friends still doesn’t believe Assma is a terrorist that she has joined the Islamic State to fight for a cause.

Authorities Working On Finding The Case

Assma reportedly borrowed AU $2,500, which she might have spent for her trip to Syria. But her friends are still in shock because it’s unlikely for Assma to leave her kids who were the world to her.

NSW Police said the matter is still under investigation by officers working with the joint counterterrorism team, so it was not appropriate to comment.
