The Los Angeles Lakers (20-50) will host the Los Angeles Clippers (42-29) in the third game of the four-match regular season series between the inter-city rivals at the Staples Center on Tuesday evening. While the Clippers, fresh off wins against the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers, is trying to surpass the Utah Jazz as the fourth seed in the West, the Lakers is on "tank mode" with just a few weeks left in the season.

After most of their season derailed with injuries suffered by superstars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, the Clippers are finally healthy and playing their best brand of basketball in recent weeks. On Monday, Griffin had his first 30-point game since February as the Clippers overcame the Knicks 114-105. The five-time All-Star acknowledges that his team is close to returning to the form that made them the top seed at the start of the season.

"We've been better (in recent games). I'd like to see us execute like this in a little bit more stressful environment, on the road or in different situations. It's a good sign. It's always nice to have a game where most everybody is under 30 minutes. We get to rest in the fourth quarter and get ready for the Lakers," the star forward said after Monday's win over the Knicks, via ESPN.

Meanwhile, the Lakers could have unearthed something special by moving second-year guard D'Angelo Russell to the shooting guard position during Sunday's 125-120 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Russell registered a career-high 40 points, besides going 7/12 from deep, as the Lakers fought tooth-and-nail against the reigning NBA champion before a fourth-quarter meltdown spoiled its chances of an upset win.

"I think it started with him knocking down shots. I think we've seen him when he gets going, he's tough to handle. What was most impressive offensively to me, because I already know he can shoot the ball, but he did a great job of mixing it up and trying to get into the paint and playmaking on offense, purposely calling certain plays to get people the ball and coming off picks and making correct decisions," Luke Walton, coach of the Lakers, said after Sunday's game, before stressing that Russell would continue to play as a two-guard after spending most of his early career at the point guard position.

After hosting the Clippers, the Lakers will stay at home to host the Minnesota Timberwolves (March 24), Portland Trail Blazers (March 26) and Washington Wizards (March 28) before setting off on a two-game road trip. The Clippers, meanwhile, will visit the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday.
