Lorde didn’t diss Taylor Swift, the Kiwi teen singer insisted. After being quoted as calling the American Grammy Award-winning artist “unattainable,” Lorde has explained what she really meant when mentioned Taylor on her interview.

Although she is just fairly new in show business, she has already amassed a bevy of accolades. But with praises also come intrigues, and even the 16-year-old singer/songwriter from Auckland is not immune.

Metro magazine has published an interview with the young singer, in which she has talked about feminism and the role of her fellow pop stars.

“Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls,” Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, was quoted in the magazine’s October issue as saying.

“’I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s f****** bulls***.”

Her comment has expectedly caused a few eyebrows to raise, many of which belong to Taylor’s loyal fans. So before Taylor was able to respond to the alleged diss, Lorde has clarified what she really meant by it.

On her Tumblr page, Lorde responded to a fan who asked her to explain what she said about Taylor.

“i think i cocked that up a bit and what i said wasn’t put in context also,” Lorde started.

“what i meant was: there’s a lot of importance placed on physical perfection in this industry, and i wish my favourite stars didn’t look perfect because i think fans (me included) have these feelings of worthlessness, like they’ll never be as pretty/talented/whatever, as a result of this intense photoshop culture and the endless strive for perfection.

“ts was the first person i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i think she actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way.

“taylor swift has a very unique vision, which i admire. i think somewhere along the line also there was a misquote where people got the impression i thought writing about love was shameful. i don’t! i just haven’t found a way of doing it which is powerful and innovative, which is why i don’t.” (all sic)

She concluded her note with a P.S., writing, “i am very very new to this whole thing. i will probably never be the kind of role model for my fans that ts is for hers. i admire her very much for this reason. basically, this is an apology for not thinking too hard before i speak. peace.”

While her explanation should appease Taylor’s fans, Selena Gomez’s followers are still waiting for an explanation.

Lorde also mentioned Justin Bieber’s ex-girlfriend in the interview, and clearly, she wasn’t a fan of Selena’s hit song “Come and Get It.”

“I love pop music on a sonic level. But I’m a feminist and the theme of her song [‘Come & Get It’] is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me.’ I’m sick of women being portrayed this way,” an excerpt of Lorde’s interview was printed by blogger Perez Hilton.

Lorde didn’t say she dislikes Selena, just her song, which is just awkward all the same since Selena appears to be a fan of hers.

The former Disney star not only quoted a line from Lorde’s “The Love Club” on her Instagram account, she also recently covered Lorde’s chart-topping hit “Royals” in her show in Amsterdam.
