Liverpool are reported to be in a race with Arsenal to sign unsettled Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.

The Express suggests that the 26-year-old French international isn't convinced that he is a part of the long-term plan of Blancos president Florentino Perez, with the latter having chased Luis Suarez before the former Reds forward opted to join FC Barcelona.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring in a tried-and-tested goalscorer to lead his attacking-third, as summer gamble Mario Balotelli is currently finding it hard to live up to expectations as far as output is concerned, while Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will look to form one of the deadliest and relatively deeper roster upfront.

Benzema has not disappoint since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2009 slowly racking up more and more goals while also showing unselfishness and creativity with his high assist tally.

He already has found the back of the net 11 times and layed off on 8 instances in all competitions, thus far, this season.

France overseer Didier Deschamps even described him as a player who's able to make a way to be effective amid difficulty.

"He isn't an out-and-out striker; he likes to take part in other aspects of attack," said Deschamps.

"It's true there was a time when Benzema struggled in front of goal, but he keeps scoring goals."
