As the Malaysian Grand Prix has set rolling, Lewis Hamilton of Britain recorded his fastest time with 1m40.691s lap, 0.152 seconds, leaving Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen at the back in the training session.

The circuit of Malaysia is dry and has dust flowing in. This led to the drivers trying to keep check of rear grip and locking brakes.

Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa spun their cars at a high-speed on Turn 8.

As heat prevails, the divers are also facing a tough time to adjust their new 1.6 litres V6 power units.

Keven Magnussen of McLaren recorded the fastest time before hour mark, but his car halted at the pitlane entrance after losing engine power. He managed to get fifth fastest time overall, one place behind Jenson Button.

Sebastian Vettel finished practice one in seventh position.

Lotus's Romain Grosjean faced a tough time as he stopped out on track after two laps of running because of a problem with his MGU-H. Also, his teammate Pastor Maldonado spent most of the time in garage. He joined the pit just 20 minutes before the end of practice and suffered a smoky end in the first lap out of the pits.

Niko Rosberg ended up third fastest in his Mercedes, but a concern rose when he locked the rear brakes and was on the verge of a spin while entering the pitlane.

In another incident, Caterham's Marcus Ericssion looped his car under braking for the final corner. Sauber's Adrian Sutil had to face similar fate, but both were unharmed.

Sergio Perez also faced a problem with Force India after his installation lap failed to finish another lap of the session.

However, using additional bonus tyres in the first half an hour, practice definitely benefited. During this time, Alonso proved fastest ahead of Magnussen.

For Formula One lovers, the good news is that Autosports is streaming the event live from their Web site.
