The life of the legendary Italian car designer, Enzo Ferrari, during the 1940s until the 1980s will reportedly be told in a biopic set for release in 2016. Enzo was the founder of Scuderia Ferrari Formula One outfit. He died at the age of 90 in 1988.

According to a report by Italian news gazzette Il Messagero, the film titled “Ferrari” will be a high-budget film to be produced by Gianni Bozzachi, who is the owner of Triworld Cinema in partnership with Hollywood star’s Robert De Niro’s production company TriBeCa Film. The biopic is slated to begin the production soon, mostly in Italy, and is due to be released some time in 2016.

“We will have a high-budget for the film that will cover a wide span from 1945 to the 1980s in a twisted game of eras and episodes,” Bozzachi said. “It has nothing to do with the 2003 film, where Sergio Castellito played the role of Enzo.”

Bozzachi said that Clint Eastwood has been considered to direct the film. The 84-year-old American actor and director was reportedly “very interested” but wanted to read the script first.

De Niro will play the leading role and he was happy with his new film. He told the news outlet that it was a privilege to have been chosen to portray Ferrarri’s character in the biopic. De Niro added that he agreed to do the movie because it is an “exciting” project based on “creativity and courage.” He is certain that everyone, regardless of age and race, will be thrilled to witness the life of the man who revolutionised the world of motor sport.
