LG 's new smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane Luxe, has just been unveiled to the public. Tech users who are looking for something a bit more luxurious now have something to add to their collection.

Although the LG Watch Urbane Luxe is actually a wearable device, it has been described as more of a piece of jewellery than a smartwatch, according to Tech Times. The Korean tech giant worked with Reeds Jewelers, a famous retail jewellery company in the United States, for the product.

The LG Watch Urbane Luxe is adorned with 23-karat gold and an alligator leather strap. It also comes with an exclusive piano-gloss lacquer case. It reportedly took 30 very experienced leather workers to finish the handcrafting of its leather strap, which, in turn, takes 50 different steps until completion.

The strap functions with a special deployment clasp, one that was inspired by Louis Cartier's invention in 1910, which further contributes to the unit's elegant appeal. Aside from aesthetics purposes, it also reduces bulkiness.

LG's new wearable tech is a smartwatch that could easily double as an expensive timepiece. Made with 23-karat gold, its build is much stronger and harder, as compared to the usual 24-karat gold that is used for jewellery. Plus, it is also considerably heavier than the 18-karat gold material that is often used for luxurious watches.

"This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch - which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware," Chris Yie, LG Mobile Communications Company's Vice President and Head of Marketing Communications, said, as reported by LG Newsroom. "We think this is a good direction for wearables. We want to encourage this transformation."

However, only 500 units of the LG Watch Urbane Luxe will be produced. To prove each unit's authenticity, there will be a serial number that will be engraved into the device.
