Some reports say that LG's smartwatch future will apparently be centered on webOS which will serve as an alternative to Google's Android Wear which is popular for major players like Samsung, Sony and Motorola. Not to forget the iOS platform which will be used by the most anticipated Apple Watch.

In the CES 2015, Audi revealed its collaboration with LG showing off what looked like a variation of LG's round-faced G Watch R. According to The Verge, Audis' R&D chief Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg started the show calling to the stage a self-driving car controlled by the LG smartwatch that he was wearing. The three-button design that the wearable sport was noticeable but what was under its hood was in question.

LG has not formally released any information that confirms the rumours about the smartwatch that was seen in one of the shows in the annual tech show held in Las Vegas. But Android Central has reported interesting details about the still unnamed wearable. The report has confirmed that the device is not running on Android Wear. But instead, it is using different software that is based on LG's Open webOS.

Since the watch came packed with a dialer, it suggests that its future version will be able to make calls without the need for a smartphone. It is packed with certain apps such as calendar, email, music, and an Audi app for locking and unlocking a car. LG's unnamed watch is also made of stainless steel, sapphire crystal and is water resistant but details on depth and time still not exposed. Under its hood, the watch appears to be using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 processor, which is commonly used in other smartwatches.

Looking back, WebOS was initially developed by a company called Palm which was later on acquired by HP and has made the platform as an open source, later on it was dubbed as Open webOS. Apparently, the OS was then sold to LG Electronics.

There are no details yet on pricing, but some expect that the current prototype might be more expensive than the G Watch R. The rumoured device is expected to be released in the early part of 2016.
