Sources have hinted that LG and Samsung are planning to push the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware to G3, Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 before the year ends. With Android 5.0, these devices will get the benefits of Project Volta, Material Design optimisations and Android Runtime.

LG And Samsung Pushing Android 5.0 Lollipop Before 2015

LG representatives announced that LG G3 will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop before the end of 2014 according to the website TechTastic. However, the representatives for Belgium and Netherlands did not specify when exactly Android 5.0 Lollipop will be ready for release.

Google confirmed that Nexus and Google Play Edition devices are scheduled to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop in coming weeks -- expected between November and December. It is likely within these months, LG will also begin rolling out the official update with the company-based user interface for G3.

Samsung is also planning to release the official Android 5.0 Lollipop with TouchWiz UI for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 before 2015 arrives. SamMobile reported that insiders estimated the firmware release of Android 5.0 starting by late November to early December.

Features To Be Expected From Android 5.0 Lollipop Update

As of now, there are no exact details on what LG will bring to G3 with the Android 5.0 update, but expect improvements on the major software release. For Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, an exclusive preview uploaded at YouTube revealed what Android 5.0 looks like on Galaxy S5 running TouchWiz UI.

Default features of Android 5.0 Lollipop include Project Volta for accurate battery monitor, new toggles on the Quick Settings, notifications enabled on the lock screen, optimisations on the user interface of Android OS and the new Android Runtime to make apps run faster. Other technical features are:

- Support for 64-bit processors

- SELinux implementation to reduce attacks from vulnerabilities and malware

- Improvements to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity

- Several add-ons for audio support

- OpenGL ES 3.1 for better graphics on apps and games

- Support for raw image formats
