The recently unveiled LG G2 is now being compared against the Android rival device, Samsung Galaxy S4, with some reports pointing out the differences while the others noticing similarities. The Samsung Galaxy S4 currently enjoys success but can the new LG device overthrow the South Korean manufacturer from its rule?

The LG G2 smartphone sports a bigger screen display size of 5.2 inches with IPS + LCD touch screen and Full HD 1080p resolution compared to the Samsung Galaxy S4's 5-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD 1920x1080p resolution. Though LG G2 has thinner bezels, both smartphones have rounded corners and a shiny plastic body design.

However, the most significant difference between the LG G2 and Samsung Galaxy S4 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor incorporated. Samsung is rumoured to be offering soon the refurbished Galaxy S4 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor but the smartphone currently remains behind the LG G2 that boasts with the latest quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3GHz.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 processing power comes from the 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU), Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system and the TouchWiz UI. Other features and specs include the 16GB internal storage capacity that can be expanded up to 64GB through the microSD card slot, a 2600mAh removable battery and the connectivity support for 4G LTE, HSPA+ 3G, Wi-Fi, DLNA, microUSB, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth and MHL TV-Out.

Samsung's TouchWiz has a couple of additional features thrown in such as Smart Stay which keeps the screen display bright as long as the user's looking at it, Group Play which allows the user to play a track wirelessly across multiple handsets to create an ad hoc sound system and the Air Gestures that operates certain interface elements with hand movements over the screen display.

In terms of camera, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 13MP BSI sensor with LED flash, HDR, digital image stabilization and panorama mode while the front-facing camera is at 2MP rate with 1080p resolution on video recording. The smartphone can support the features of voice activation, face and smile detection, autofocus and touch focus.

The LG G2, on the other hand, is packed with 2GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, 3000mAh removable battery, connectivity support for LTE, HSPA+ 3G, MHL TV-Out, GPS, microUSB, NFC, Bluetooth, DLNA, Wi-Fi and available storage capacities of 16GB of 32GB without the microSD card slot for memory storage expansion.

LG has incorporated a 13MP rear-facing camera on the LG G2 with 1080p video recording capability, the LED flash, HDR mode and optical image stabilization (OIS) features. LG decided to make the LG G2 smartphone out of the ordinary when they placed the volume rocker at the back, the LED flash located on the camera's right side and opted out on placing physical buttons below the screen display.
