Lewis Hamilton Buys A Limited Edition Ferrari Worth $1.5 Million, Says Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff
Australian Grand Prix champion Lewis Hamilton has bought a Ferrari, his Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff has revealed. Hamilton didn’t just buy a Ferrari, but the he reportedly bought the top-of-the-line model of the rival team: a limited edition La Ferrari.
As Hamilton and Mercedes continue to negotiate for an extension of the reigning world champion’s contract beyond 2015, Wolff has revealed to Italian news gazette Corriere Dello Sport that the 30-year-old British race car driver has apparently been in touch with Ferrari. Does it mean that Hamilton is considering leaving Mercedes after his successful run with the team? Not quite.
“Of course, Lewis has had contact with Ferrari, don’t you know,” Wolff said. “He just bought a Ferrari, indeed, La Ferrari.”
According to Wolff, they have no problem with Hamilton’s recent Ferrari purchase. He also admitted that Hamilton and Mercedes are close to agreeing terms for a multi-year deal.
Meanwhile, Hamilton is gearing up for the second race of the Formula One, or F1, 2015 season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from March 27 to 29. Hamilton, who won the Malaysian Grand Prix title in 2014, is hoping for a repeat success in Sepang this year.
Hamilton battled off not only his teammate Nico Rosberg but the rest of the pack to take the victory at Albert Park in Melbourne. He said that he has been keeping his eyes on Sepang since leaving the track in Melbourne.
“I feel ready for anything right now and the aim is to repeat last year’s performance,” Hamilton, who fought through the harsh weather conditions at the Sepang track last year, said in a statement shared on Mercedes’ website. “It took me eight attempts to win this race when I finally made it to the top step last year and I don’t plan on waiting that long again.”
Hamilton reckons that the season is still early and his victory in Melbourne is just “one small step” in his bid to defend his Drivers’ Championship crown. However, Hamilton hopes to maintain a strong performance following his dynamic start in Melbourne en route to F1 championship.
