Earlier this year, at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona Lenovo launched the budget-friendly Android Tab2 A8 along with Tab 2 A10. As a deliberate move to provide an extra edge to their products in the highly competitive markets, budget-friendly manufacturers generally focus on a key aspect in the product. Lenovo’s Tab 2 A8 focused on the audio experience and battery life.

Design and display

Android Authority describes the tablet as simple but elegant. The tablet has a thickness of 8.9 mm and weighs 360 grams. The device sports an 8-inch IPS LCD display with a 1280 x 800 (184 pixel per inch) resolution.

The rear plastic panel with a matte finish wraps the display frame. At the back, the flap houses the SIM card and the microSD card slots. For the LTE version of the decide there is additional space for SIM card. The striking metallic blue shell gives a sleek look to the tablet. The power button and volume rocker lies on the right side and both the headphone jack and the microUSB port are at the top. Laptop Mag measured the brightness of the tablets screen at 368 nits which is proved to better than the category average of 348 nits.

Hardware and software

The Lenovo Tab 2 A8 packs a 64-bit quad-core MT8161 processor for the Wi-Fi-only model whereas the LTE model is equipped with a 64-bit quad-core MT8735, both clocked at 1.3 GHz and 1GB of RAM. The Wi-Fi-only model is also backed by the Mali-T720 GPU. The Tab 2 A8 comes with 8/16 GB of internal storage which expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card. According to Android Authority, 1 GB of RAM is to some extent restrictive when it comes to multi-tasking. The tablet houses a 4,290mAh battery which lasts for more than 7 hours with continuous usage like Web surfing on Wi-Fi, watching videos with a display brightness set to 100 percent. The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Slash Gear ran the tablet through AnTuTu benchmarking tests as well.

Audio

The front facing stereo speakers featuring Dolby Atmos Cinematic Moving Audio is the USP of the Lenovo Tab 2 A8. The device provides a truly amazing experience while watching a movie or playing a game, reports Android Authority. This speaker setting augments the overall media consumption experience.

Performance

Even if the performance is not top notch, the Lenovo Tab 2 A8 is a perfect choice for browsing the Web, playing mobile games, chatting and even working on documents. The commendable battery life and amazing audio experience make it one of the best options at $AUD 176 or $US130.
