“Legends of Tomorrow” has named the actor playing the mystery hero who will join the group of disparate heroes and villains in the season finale next month. Rip Hunter’s (Arthur Darvill) past, along with a jaw-dropping secret of the Time Masters, will also be revealed.

Mild spoilers ahead for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’

Comic Book Resources has added a synopsis for the April 21 (US) episode of the show, titled “Last Refuge,” in which the team will be targeted by The Pilgrim (guest star Faye Kingslee), a deadly assassin who wants to erase the team from the timeline by killing their younger selves. Rip tells Sara (Caity Lotz), Snart (Wentworth Miller), Rory (Dominic Purcell), Professor Stein (Victor Garber) and Jax (Franz Drameh) to kidnap their younger, past selves before The Pilgrim gets to them.

Meeting their past selves proved to be both a physical and emotional encounter for some of them, though, so Rip tells them to bring the youngsters to an orphanage that raises future Time Masters, and where he himself grew up.

New superhero

Meanwhile, the mysterious “beloved superhero from the DC canon” set to join the show has been named. TV Line reported last month that the unidentified character will have a mysterious agenda that will serve as a “launching off point for Season 2.”

That character will be played by “Suits” star Patrick J. Adams. Not much is known about the “Legends” newbie, but EW described him as a “fun character the fans will love.”

As the Internet guessed, Adams could probably play Booster Gold, a member of the Justice League who also time travels.

The last episode of season one, “Legendary,” will air on May 19 in the US, May 20 in Australia on Fox8.

‘Night of the Hawk’ and ‘Left Behind’ recap

In the two-part episode aired in March, the team arrived in the year 1958 to investigate a series of murders they believed were caused by Savage. Ray and Kendra, posing as a married couple, and Sara were stuck in the year when Chronos arrived and attacked the Waverider, forcing it to leave abruptly and leaving the trio behind.

The team flew back to retrieve their three allies two years later, which saw Ray and Kendra building a life together. However, Sara rejoined the League of Assassins, led by Ra’s al Ghul, and did not want to join the time-travelling group anymore. She even turned them over to Ra’s to be executed. Meanwhile, Chronos revealed himself to Snart as Rory.

As it can be recalled in the previous episode “Marooned,” Rory became a full-time villain betraying the whole team. When he was apprehended, his now-former partner Snart appeared to have killed him. As it turned out, he only left him in that timeline. Rory was then found by the Time Masters and trained him to be their bounty hunter. So Chronos, who has been chasing the group from the first episode, is actually one of them.

In the end of the “Left Behind” episode, Kendra was able to get through Sara during their one-on-one trial by combat. Ra’s freed the team, and the team successfully stopped Chronos and learnt of his true identity. They then decided they would try to reform Chronos/Mick.
