When “Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” was announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, this year, Nintendo introduced a fresh take on the silent protagonist, Link. It wasn’t the typical “Legend of Zelda” game that features a solo adventure in the land of Hyrule. Instead, “Tri-Force Heroes” is an iteration of the series that focuses on teamwork as three players struggle to solve puzzles and kill enemies.

Nintendo announced today in a press release that the game will be launching on October 23, as reported by iDigitalTimes. The release date is applicable to both North America and Europe.

“Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes” takes its roots from “Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Four Swords,” as it requires several players taking control of Link.

The game can be played online and requires a lot of cooperation between players. It gives players access to a new feature called the Totem mechanic, which allows the three players to stand atop each other, form one tall totem pole that can reach high places and kill elevated enemies. The game will also feature a single player mode wherein other Links are controlled by the AI.

What maximizes the multiplayer experience of the game is the costume mechanic for each iteration of Link. The players take control of three different Links that have varying skills and abilities based on the color of his outfit. In addition, players will also come across other outfits that would give Link different skills.

Despite being revealed to the public earlier than “Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes,” “Zelda” for the Wii U is still waiting for a specific release date. A quarterly financial report by Nintendo revealed that the game will be released in 2016. With the postponement of “Zelda,” players will first have to make due with “Tri Force Heroes,” which can now be preordered at Amazon.
