A huge sport fans, Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to attend the match between Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets to watch NBA superstar LeBron James play. The basketball match is part of the royal couple's first ever New York tour.

Based on reports, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's appearance at Brooklyn's Barclays Centre will help boost the NBA's popularity and help gain more supporters around the world. In favour of seeing "The King," the royal couple reportedly snubbed the New York Knicks playing against Portland Trailblazers on Dec. 7 as they expressed interest to watch a basketball game at Madison Square Garden.

"Although basketball isn't big in Britain, William has heard of LeBron James... although Kate apparently had no idea who he was," a MailOnline insider revealed. "No wonder Adam Silver (NBA's commissioner) is leaping up and down and celebrating. It's perfect timing that Kate and William are visiting New York at the exact same time as LeBron James is in town."

Excited to watch their first American basketball game as a couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to take a private box to secure their security instead of sitting in the courtside. The insider also revealed that with Kate's condition it is best to take the back seat and not risk herself being huge basketball stars crashing into her in the front row.

The royal tour also includes a trip to the nation's capital, Washington D.C., by Will to attend an anti-poaching conference, while Kate will spend the entire trip in the Big Apple. She is scheduled to visit a child development centre and host a lunch at the British Consulate.

Prince George's parents are set to arrive in the states on the evening of Dec. 7 and will spend their first night at a private dinner on behalf of the American Friends of the Royal Foundation. Unfortunately, the 1-year-old prince is not joining his parents and will remain in London with his nanny.

CORRECTION: A Nov. 19 version of this article errouneously stated that the NBA donated $1 million to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's charity United for Wildlife. No donation was made or is expected to be made for the royal couple to grace the basketball match where LeBron James is expected to play.
