An apartment owned and resided in by Lauren Bacalls, which is located in one of New York City's most posh locality, is up for sale. The house where the legendary actress lived almost all her life is priced at $26 million.

The house is located in the Dakota Building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, which is hailed as one of the finest locations in New York. The speculations regarding the sale of the house followed the star's death earlier this year at the age of 89, as told by Real Deal.

The house has an iconic legacy as the actress bought it when she was barely 37 years of age. It had seen most the actress' experiences as she raised her three children in the same house before passing away due to a stroke.

The house has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, an office and a library. The actress had reportedly bought the apartment for $48,000 back in 1961 and had people like Boris Karloff, Judy Holliday and Roberta Flack as her neighbors.

The 93-unit landmark building, at 1 West 72nd Street, is undoubtedly one of the city's most elite properties. The building has a notoriously strict co-op board, which scrutinizes the prospective buyers very closely. Real Deal has churned out details that the stodgy board has even once turned down Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, as well as Cher, Madonna, Alex Rodriguez and Billy Joel. The committee was even hit by a racial bias suit by a hedge fund manager Alphonse 'Buddy' Fletcher in 2011.

With regard Bacalls' home, the co-op board has kept the details, such as the exact size of the apartment under wraps, but the floor plan suggests that the apartment is between 3,000 and 4,000 square feet, as told by Yahoo! Finance.

Manhattan's most posh and exclusive building gate is also the site of the legendary singer John Lennon's murder and his widow still lives in the same building. The building has some of the big names from all walks of life in its residents' list, which includes world famous journalists Connie Chung and Maury Povich, actress Judy Garland, composer Leonard Bernstein, author Harlan Coben and the famous actress Lillian Gish.
