Protesters Gather Around The Golden Bauhinia Square In Hong Kong
Protesters gather around the Golden Bauhinia Square before an official flag raising ceremony to commemorate the Chinese National Day in Hong Kong, October 1, 2014. Tens of thousands of pro-democracy protesters extended a blockade of Hong Kong streets on, stockpiling supplies and erecting makeshift barricades ahead of what some fear may be a push by police to clear the roads before Chinese National Day. A Scottish man, Vincent Smith from Blantyre in Scotland was watching the live telecast of the Hong Kong protests on BBC when he spotted a UFO in the protest video on his television screen. The incident occurred on Sept. 30, when Smith was recording the protests. He suddenly saw a bright green object flying in the sky while the pro-democracy protests were going on.

He immediately took a video of his television as he replayed the recorded footage of the protests and posted it on YouTube. In the video, Smith points out to a glowing green UFO that can be seen moving past the screen. Below the "UFO" one can see several protesters on the streets. The object flew slowly from left to right onto a skyscraper where it hovered for less than a second and then flew vertically, suddenly catching speed.

Smith himself was astonished by what he had captured. He can be heard asking in the video, "What is that? What is that?" According to Scotland Now, he sent the recording of the mystery object to the Hamilton Advertiser. OpenMinds.TV, a site that provides news on UFO and UFO investigations stated that the Hamilton Advertisers observed the movement of the UFO. According to the site, the movement of the object is "unusual," as at first it moves smoothly and hovers above the building but does not land on it. The very next second, it flies vertically upwards. This vertical motion of the object is what makes it interesting.

Speculations have been made on what the object could be. wilson0213, a YouTube user, commented on the video stating it is an alien spaceship. But a few others stated the object was a BBC news drone or quadcopter. Borr Magilicutty, another user questioned the statement that it was a drone, he asked, "Drone? Helicopter? At that speed??"

Another commenter pointed to the fact that the object was not captured by other major media outlets, and hence, it could be a fake. YouTube user Des Northcott responded to this comment stating that most mainstream media are controlled, and hence, many things go unreported.

While the footage is open to debate, OpenMinds.TV gave a logical explanation to the sighting. The site stated that BBC had posted a video of the protests on its website, which was captured by a drone. So it is more likely the object was nothing but a BBC news drone. Explaining the sudden vertical movement of the object, the site stated it could be a news drone that can change direction and altitude rapidly. The site also said the object could have been moving towrads the camera and not upwards, creating the illusion of moving in a rapid speed.

These, however, are only speculations. A clear conclusion has not yet been drawn.
