The world woke up to the sad news of the sudden demise of veteran actor Alan Rickman, who is arguably best known as Severus Snape from “Harry Potter” franchise. Moments after the news of his death broke out on Thursday, Alan’s co-stars, fans, friends and followers have been posting their condolences and final tributes for the actor on various social networking sites.

The ace actor left an emotional farewell note all the “Harry Potter” fans and the flick’s director J.K. Rowling to bid a hearty goodbye to the wizarding world.

The actor breathed his last on Thursday at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. The actor featured in the final part of the “Harry Potter” series in 2011 and got emotional as the decade-old association with the cast and crew of the flick was coming to an end. He, thus, penned down his thoughts in a letter that was first published in Empire Magazine.

Read Alan’s letter that he wrote back in 2011 after wrapping up the shoot of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.”

“I have just returned from the dubbing studio where I spoke into a microphone as Severus Snape for absolutely the last time. On the screen were some flashback shots of Daniel, Emma, and Rupert from ten years ago. They were 12. I have also recently returned from New York, and while I was there, I saw Daniel singing and dancing (brilliantly) on Broadway. A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes.

Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands.

It is an ancient need to be told in stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo.

Alan Rickman”

Apart for this outstanding contribution to the film industry, Rickman will always be remembered for the person he was off-screen. The actor’s love life was just as hit as his professional one. The British actor started dating Rima Horton nearly 50 years ago and got into a live-in relationship with her 1997. It was reported last year that the couple had exchanged vows secretly in April, 2015. Alan is survived only by a wife as the couple never had any children.

Condolences from “Harry Potter” stars poured in on Twitter after the news of Rickman’s death broke out.

I'm very sad to hear about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I'll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you
