‘The Last of Us: Left Behind’ Standalone Release Date And Price Announced For PS4 And PS3

“Left Behind” was originally released as a piece of post-launch DLC for Naughty Dog’s multiple award winning third-person survival horror game, “The Last of Us.” The DLC takes place before and during the events depicted in the main game. It tells the story of protagonist Ellie and her relationship with best friend and confidant, Riley, as they struggle to survive the apocalypse. Naughty Dog Community Strategist, Arne Meyer made the announcement on the PlayStation Blog and explained why fans should give the DLC a shot.

“If you haven’t had a chance yet to check out ‘The Last of Us,’ this is a nicely priced gateway to checking out the world and characters so many people (and critics) loved. While part of the story of ‘Left Behind’ takes place during the main narrative arc of ‘The Last of Us,’ I think some of the best and most touching moments of any game in recent memory occur during the prequel segments, as we follow Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of boarding school to visit an abandoned mall, getting one final chance to enjoy their friendship before Riley leaves to join the Fireflies,” he said.

Meyer went on to state that Naughty Dog has included a two-hour trial of the highly praised “Factions” multiplayer mode from “The Last of Us.” Taking cues from the main game, “Factions” multiplayer sees one team of Hunters compete against an opposing team of Fireflies for the supplies and spare parts available on a map. Parts and supplies can be found in the environment, but are also awarded for successfully downing and executing enemy combatants. Once the map is over, players are able to take the supplies they earned back to their virtual base camps and use them to feed survivors as part of an ongoing meta-game.

In addition to the two-hour multiplayer trial, Naughty Dog has also included purchase upgrade-paths that gamers can use to get their hands on both the full Factions multiplayer mode, and the full “Last of Us” single-player game. As noted by DualShockers, “The Last of Us” has managed to become one of the most critically acclaimed games in recorded history, garnering much praise from critics and fans alike. “Left Behind” drew similarly high praise, with Eurogamer awarding it a perfect 10 out of 10 in its review, praising the writing, characters and story.
