Kylie Jenner started to be financially independent at the age of 14. The reality star shared that her mom cut her off at the tender age and she had been making financial decisions on her own since then. A source close to the family however, said the teen might be exaggerating a little bit.

In an interview with InStyle’s UK Edition, the youngest Jenner said she had been responsible for her own expenses when she was just 14. “My mom cut me off financially three years ago,” she said. “I pay for everything — my car, my gas and food, as well as my clothes.”

A source close to the family however, told E News that Kylie just might have exaggerated the truth a little bit. While it is true that Kris Jenner wanted Kylie, and the rest of her daughters to be financially independent as young as possible, their basic needs were well accounted for growing up. According to the source, Kris has taught all her daughters the importance of financial responsibility as well as independence, but she paid for Kylie’s car, medical expenses, “housing, food and vacations.” The source explained that Kylie only had to shell out her own money when she wants extra things, such as clothes. The source added that if Kylie wanted to have new clothes, she cannot just ask for money from Kris.

The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan had been earning some serious cash with her appearances on the family’s E reality show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians.” She also has successful fashion lines with her model sister Kendall, for well-known brands such as Pacsun and TopShop. This is why just this February, she was also able to purchase a mansion in Calabasas worth $2.7 million.

Only a few more months before she turns 18 and moves in to this new home, Kris said Kylie has her own vision of what her new space would look like. She is presumably taking the remaining time she has now to get really creative on the mansion’s design and style. Kylie is said to be really excited.
