Giving his fans a taste of his new music, “Lose Yourself” rapper Eminem (Marshall Mathers) tweeted “Southpaw’s” new trailer featuring a ripped Jake Gyllenhaal as boxer Billy “The Great” Hope. Helmed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”), the American sports-drama film was penned by “Sons of Anarchy” showrunner Kurt Sutter after years of studying Eminem.

The 2:30 short trailer features Gyllenhaal with co-star Rachel McAdams as Maureen Hope, Billy’s wife. The teaser also features “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Rita Ora, rapper 50 Cent, “Fast and Furious” actor Tyrese and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker as Titus “Tick” Willis, as Billy’s mentor.

"The role that I play is indeed very far away from my real life but this role made me see a few things differently now,” the British singer told Glamour magazine via MTV News when asked about her role as a junkie. "To be honest I needed a lot of coaching and some speech training, because I had to have a certain accent. It was really great to go into a completely different world but it was not always easy."

Made especially for Eminem, Sutter revealed that he took countless meetings with Eminem’s producing partners and the project was borne out of the rapper’s life struggles. The movie’s title “Southpaw” refers to the fact that Eminem is a lefty which is completely unorthodox for boxer, just like Mathers who is a white rapper in a hip-hop world.

Instead of starring in the film, the rapper is supporting the film as the trailer features the singer’s yet-to-be-released music. The 42-year-old tweeted on Friday, March 27, the movie’s trailer and wrote, “Sneak peek of some new stuff I’ve been working on in the @SouthPawMovie trailer. World premiere!”

The hip-hop superstar is currently collaborating with 50 Cent, who is also set to make an appearance in the movie, for an upcoming coming, “Champions.” The film follows the story of a lefty boxer who “fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart,” according to IMDB’s movie synopsis.

A continuation of Eminem’s “8 Mile” story, “Southpaw” is scheduled to be released on July 31, by Weinstein Company. Check out “Southpaw’s” trailer here courtesy of EminemMusic.
