The iconic and highly-anticipated film adaptation of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" will finally hit the big screen this 2012.

The official poster along with a few movie stills has been released which will surely make fans of Kristen Stewart not too glad to see her get cozy and personal with two boys who have no resemblance whatsoever with her British boyfriend, Robert Pattinson.

With the direction of Walter Salles, "On the Road" depicts a deeply textured and rugged 1950's appeal of adventure and cross-country trips of three young adults.

British actor, Sam Riley, plays the male lead Sal Paradise whom Jack Kerouac portrays as a Beat Generation writer on the road for self-discovery involving drugs and booze.

Along with Sam Riley "On the Road" is Garret Hedlund who plays Dean Moriarty, Sam's best friend and Kristen Stewart who plays Marylou, Dean's wife. Other big names joining as the cast is "Lord of the Rings" Viggo Mortensen, Terence Howard, Elisabeth Moss, Tom Sturridge, Kristen Dunst and Amy Adams.

Though the poster is a far cry from the earlier released movie poster last May of 2011, the newest release shows a messier and rugged version of the three main leads who are reflected in a rearview mirror . As for the movie stills, a few show what Riley does best, wandering and writing.

After approximately two years of filming back in the fall and winter of 2012, Walter Salles directed film is set to be released this May at the Cannes Film Festival while fans of Jack Kerouac's book in France get to see it at an earlier release date of March. With the Oscars over and done, the film may also be released earlier than May in the US.

As for now, fans of Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley best get content with the official movie poster and film stills released by Focus Features one of which features Stewart getting cozy with Hedlund in the front seat of the car.

"On the Road" is the first beat film said to be heading to this years' Cannes Film Festival but will be joined by a few others. One of which is "Kill Your Darlings" by Allen Ginsberg which has got Daniel Radcliffe plus a few other Hollywood names namely Jack Houston, Elizabeth Olsen, Michael C. Hall and Ben Parker.
